Holding Olympics in China was not a good decision: Speaker of Italian provincial parliament
Beijing News.Net Sunday 11th May, 2008 (ANI)
Dharamsala, May 11 : President of the regional parliament of south Tyrol in Italy Franz Pahl on Sunday met the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, and condemning Chinese repression in Tibet said that holding the Olympics in China was not a good decision.
Addressing a news conference in Dharamsala, Franz Pahl said that a resolution passed by the Regional Parliament of South Tyrol (Italy) in the session of April 16, 2008 unanimously condemned the repression inflicted on the Tibetan people by the Chinese government, and expressed solidarity with the Tibetan people, their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and Tibetan government-in-exile.
The visiting speaker of South Tyrol province, who met the Dalai Lama said that the Regional Parliament of South Tyrol (Italy) supports the values of democracy and non- violence also in a context of globalization and urged the Chinese government to release all political prisoners in China.
"It was not a good decision to concede the Olympic Games to China because China is a nation which does not respect minimally the human rights recognized officially by the United Nations. So in this session of April 16, we condemned unanimously by all 16 parties in the regional parliament. We condemn unanimously the repression inflicted on Tibetan, we express our solidarity to the Tibetan people and the Dalai Lama," said Franz Pahl.
He also urged the Chinese government to enforce right to freedom of expression and information in Tibet.
Pahl remarked that that the Olympic torch, the symbol of freedom and brotherhood should not be carried through Tibet and territories where repression and military occupation are still ongoing.
Dolma Garry, Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile graciously welcomed the support and solidarity expressed by the Regional Parliament of South Tyrol in Italy.
"We are also encouraged by the genuine effort of the regional parliament in raising the issues concerning Tibetans in general and the recent violence in particular. We hope that the Italian government and the European parliament will consider the important resolutions of the RPTSY and take immediate action there in," said Garry.
After a crackdown on protests against Chinese rule in Tibet, an international diplomatic chorus earlier this year urged a dialogue with the Dalai Lama. Beijing abruptly announced in late April that it intended to meet the Tibetan spiritual icon's aides.
Despite the offer of talks, China has accused Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, who fled Tibet after a failed 1959 uprising against Communist rule, of manipulating opinion and governments in the West.
There have been six rounds of dialogue between China and the Dalai Lama's envoys since 2002 with no breakthrough.

none other than a power game, and an ego trip, but can cause deaths, and civil wars in others.
Here’s another western power who thinks it can tell China what to do, so that China will not be able to even tell its own people what to do. Double standards to boot. Who are they to conclude that China violated human rights while they are the ones violating the sovereign rights of China? This is absurd, and is the typical, easy, dirty tricks that western powers have been using to gain power and control over the citizens of the other nations as well as to instill fear and doubts in them of their own government. It may appear to be a simple ego trip but it cuts deep into one’s patriotism of their motherland. This kind of childish, immature tricks have been repeated way too many times and is getting old, stale, laughable. Unfortunately these dirty tricks have proven to be pathetically damaging to many nations (developing nations which are still in search of their identities are especially vulnerable) when their budding patriotism (a foundation of a country) are being sabotaged. Either this kind of divisive, propagandised & dangerous power games should be prohibited, or the clear double standards/jeopardies be pointed out, corrected, and eradicated.

concede the game to no country and to no tribe due to human nature?
Throughout human history there are always those who rule and those who are being ruled. It is human nature to resent being told what to do. As such, it will be hard-pressed to find any country where all of its people will embrace their government without any doubt, reservation, complaints, criticism or resentment. But these can become the excuses and opportunities for many western countries to create problems for others. As long as they interpret 'being told what to do' as 'violation of human rights', they are giving themselves the carte blanc to interfere in the business of others and to wage wars on those they define as 'oppressors'. Ironically, they can violate the human rights of others by killing them with their weapons of mass destructions, in the name of 'human rights'. Many times, it is not even their business to be there when their own people have human rights issue and are resentful of their own governments at home. In reality, the Olympics is not a good idea anywhere in the world, as long as there are governments with those who rule and those who are being ruled. Even tribes have tribal leaders and tribal wars. This kind of taking sides is plain childish, and its argument, lame. Italy is implying that we should concede the game to no country and to no tribe due to human nature. Come on!

Holding Olympics in China was not a good decision: Speaker of Italian provincial parliament
Finally the remaining member of the G7 spoke out for Dalai. Japan is the only country in G7 who remains silent. The action of these countries is not unlike what took place 100 years ago, only this time China is a different country.
