Assassination plot unveiled in Zimbabwe
Beijing News.Net Saturday 17th May, 2008
A reported plot against the life of Zimbabwe's opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has postponed his return from Europe and South Africa where he had been in exile for a month.
Mr Tsvangirai had just completed a trip through Europe and was about to return to Zimbabwe to continue his election campaign.
Even though rumours of the plot have been widely circulated in Zimbabwe, Mr Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change has dismissed the plot against the opposition leader's life as a likely fabrication, spread by the ruling ZANU-PF party.
On 27th June, Mr Tsvangirai is due to face President Robert Mugabe in the second round of the presidential elections.
The opposition leader won the first round in March but not by a big enough margin to secure an outright victory.
The upcoming elections are being overshadowed by intimidation and violence.
