U.S. stocks steadier Thursday

U.S. stocks were on the mend Thursday after two days of relentless losses.

All indices were in the black by the close of trading.

The Dow Jones Industrials ended up 24.43 points or 0.19% at 12,625.62.

The Nasdaq Composite was ahead 16.31 points or 0.67% at 2,464.58.

The Standard and Poor's 500 was up 3.64 points or 0.26% at 1,394.34.

The U.S. dollar was out of favour Thursday. Against the euro, the dollar traded at 1.5730 around the New York close Thursday.

The British pound fetched 1.9808, while the Swiss franc rose to 1.0306.

The Australian dollar was little changed at .9571, but the Canadian dollar firmed markedly to .9838.

The Japanese yen was modestly stronger against the dollar at 104.10, but weakened against other currencies.
