Only some workers make the grade in Israel
Beijing News.Net Wednesday 11th November, 2009
Ethiopian Jews, ultra-Orthodox Jews and Israeli Arabs are finding it hard to find lucrative professions in Israel.
Even those with academic degrees have been found to lose out in professions like banking, advertising, media, accounting, the public sector and law.
The Jerusalem Post has reported that Israeli employers have reported that are hesitant to hire the aforementioned citizens, even if they met the academic qualifications for the job.
The findings showed that 83 per cent of employers preferred not to hire Arabs, 58% said no to ultra-Orthodox Jews and 53% rejected Ethiopians.
The study also found that these populations had a tough time seeking advancement in the workplace.
Television and advertising were the most discriminatory sectors and the banking and finance sectors have discriminated mostly against Arabs and Ethiopians.
