Crew of 4 foreign vessels, negative of COVID-19

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Feb. 19 (PIA) - - The seventeen crew of the four vessels that docked in Aparri seaport were negative of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), Governor Manuel Mamba cleared.

The foreign vessels with marking MV Silk Road 12, 13, 14 and 16, registered under Riverfront Construction Incorporated, came from Hunan, China on board nine Chinese and eight Filipino crew last December 2019.

Mamba said the crew members were already given clearance by the quarantine officials after the 50-day quarantine in Sta Cruz, Zambales before their arrival in Aparri town.

Dr. Rowena Maranthan, municipal health officer of Aparri town, guaranteed that the crew members are negative of the virus.

On the other hand, eight of the nine Patients-Under-Investigation (PUIs) in Cagayan Valley region were already negative of COVID-19 as of February 17. The laboratory result of the remaining PUIs is yet to be released.

Dr. Rio Magpantay, regional director, said the Cagayan Valley region is still COVID19-free as there are no confirmed cases yet from among the PUIs.

"Our PUIs is decreasing. Soon this will be over. So many lessons learned. So many improvements to make," Magpantay said.

The DOH officials and its counterpart in the LGUs are also conducting massive information drive to address COVID-19.

Magpantay also reminded public to be responsible in sharing accurate information on COVID-19 to avoid false alarm and public scare. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
