With his status still up in the air, new Inter Miami CF addition Gonzalo Higuain will travel with the club in hopes of making his MLS debut at Philadelphia on Sunday.

The 32-year-old forward, who has played with European powers like Real Madrid, Napoli, Juventus, Milan and Chelsea, was signed by Inter Miami as a designated player on Sept. 18.

The longtime member of the Argentina international team is still awaiting the completion of his paperwork in order to be eligible.

"He already knows his teammates, he's had several trainings with them and they've interacted on different drills," head coach Diego Alonso said. "We've talked a lot about the way we play, we've watched videos, and we've worked a lot."

When he is ready to play, Higuain is expected to partner up front with Rodolfo Pizarro and Juan Agudelo. They are tied for the team lead with three goals each.

Higuain has scored as many as 36 regular-season goals for Napoli in 2015-16 and last scored double-digit goals when he had 16 for Juventus in 2017-18. He has 19 total goals in 61 matches for Milan, Chelsea and Juventus the past three seasons.

In 75 games for Argentina across all competitions, he has 31 goals, third most among active players.
