Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau: 'It is sad to lose'

12 Oct 2020, 19:13 GMT+10

Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau struggled to wrap his head around their 2-1 international friendly defeat against Zambia on Sunday.

Coming off a 1-1 draw against neighbours Namibia last Thursday, the South Africans were desperate for an improved result against the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions.

However, it was not meant to be for head coach Molefi Ntseki's charges.

After a Keagan Dolly goal had given South Africa a 1-0 lead late in the game, Zambia hit the back of the net twice in under three minutes courtesy of Kelvin Kapamba and Chanisa Zulu.

Speaking to South African media after the match, Tau admitted that he needed time to digest the loss before he could analyse the match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

"If we got a goal in the first half, things could have been different and now it's sad to lose," Tau said.

"Now it's a bit of emotional to give feedback about the game because we just lost. We came here to try and fight for a win.

"So, I think at this stage it will be hard to give a clear picture of the difference between the first half and the second half.

"There [are] so many factors that we can take from this match. What I can just say is that we just got to go back and be better the next game."

Bafana Bafana are back in action next month for home and away 2021 AFCON qualifying clashes against Sao Tome and Principe.
