World champions Fan Zhendong will battle Chuang Chih-Yuan for a berth in the quarterfinals of the ITTF Men's World Cup.
WEIHAI, China, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- World champion Fan Zhendong will face Chuang Chih-Yuan from Chinese Taipei in the round of 16 at the ITTF Men's World Cup, according to the knock-out draw released on Friday night.
Chuang defeated American Kanak Jha 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 13-11, 13-11, before losing to Liam Pitchford from England 11-9, 6-11, 8-11, 11-13,11-13 in the group matches.
World No. 3 Ma Long will clash with Darko Jorgic from Slovenia, who beat Nigeria's Quadri Aruna 4-2 and lost to German Patrick Franziska 4-0 in the group matches.
"Everyone can feel the difference as it's the first competition after such a long time. I look forward to stepping on the court to play," said Ma, a grand slam winner of the World Championship, World Cup and Olympic titles.
No.3 seed Japanese Tomokazu Harimoto will face Robert Gardos from Austria, while the fifth seed Lin Yun-Ju from Chinese Taipei will battle against German Patrick Franziska.
The ITTF Men's World Cup is being held from November 13 to 15 in Weihai city, east China, and the knock-out stage will commence on Saturday. ■
