Fifth-seeded Cheng I-Ching of Chinese Taipei came from behind to eliminate Adriana Diaz of Puerto Rico 9-11, 11-4, 12-10, 11-5 and 13-11, setting up a clash with Chinese paddler Wang Manyu.
"I made a lot of unforced errors in the first game, and began to reduce mistakes and improve the quality of my shots from the second game," said Cheng.
"It was really hard. I didn't play a lot of shots that I wanted to. I have to improve a lot more to be on this level," Diaz noted.
After going neck and neck with Koki Niwa of Japan for a 9-9 tie, Lin escaped from the first game by bagging two straight points, and faced little challenge from there on out, winning the next three games 11-3, 11-4, 11-9 to advance to the men's singles last eight.
Lin will meet South Korean Jang Woo-jin, who knocked Japanese teenager Tomokazu Harimoto out of the competition.
"Jang has momentum and a good feeling about the competition, so I need to make better preparation for this match," Lin said.
Also on Friday, Lin Yun-Ju of Chinese Taipei dispatched German veteran Dimitrij Ovtcharov 8-11, 11-3, 4-11, 11-9, 11-6, 12-10, and will take on China's Xu Xin in the semifinals.
"After not competing for such a long time, I was struggling to keep my level over the entire match. I had ups and downs," rued Ovtcharov. ■
