NEW YORK, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday, bolstered by solid gains in energy sector.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 60.00 points, or 0.19 percent, to 31,068.69. The S&P 500 rose 1.58 points, or 0.04 percent, to 3,801.19. The Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 36.00 points, or 0.28 percent, to 13,072.43.
Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy up 3.5 percent, leading the gainers. Communication services slipped 1.5 percent, the worst-performing group.
U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly lower with nine of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on a downbeat note.
On Monday, Wall Street's major averages dropped as politics loomed over the markets.
