Sporting Kansas City head coach Peter Vermes and two unnamed players are in MLS health and safety protocols.
At a virtual press conference Monday, Vermes said it was "probably unlikely" the players would be cleared in time for Wednesday night's home game against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Vermes said he doesn't know if he will be on the sidelines, but noted that all of the the team's players and coaching staff are fully vaccinated.
Sporting KC (8-3-2, 26 points) already is shorthanded with midfielder Felipe Hernandez away from the team and forwards Alan Pulido and Gianluca Busio currently on international duty.
"It's going to definitely cause shuffling in the lineup," Vermes said. "... But we'll put a good team out on the field, as we always try to."
SKC is second in the Western Conference, three points behind the Supporters' Shield-leading Seattle Sounders (8-1-5, 29 points).
