ZHENGZHOU, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- The central Chinese city of Zhengzhou had reported 16 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases and 85 asymptomatic cases by 6 p.m. Wednesday in the latest resurgence of COVID-19, local authorities said Wednesday.
The resurgence emerged after an asymptomatic case was reported in the capital city of Henan Province on Friday, said the Zhengzhou joint headquarters for COVID-19 emergency response.
All the confirmed cases were mild or moderate, the headquarters said. It added that the 101 infected are between seven and 77 years old.
To stem the spread of the coronavirus, the city has launched closed-off management on 130 residential compounds with a total population of over 780,000.
By Wednesday afternoon, Zhengzhou had completed a citywide nucleic acid testing of 11.18 million residents, finding 99 confirmed or asymptomatic cases.
