BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.19 percent to 3,245.38 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.72 percent lower at 11,564.45 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1 trillion yuan (about 145.46 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.13 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in the liquor-making and food sectors led the gains, while shares related to furniture and real estate suffered losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.2 percent to close at 2,369.17 points.
