MACAO, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The "Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023" opened on Friday at the Macao Museum of Art, gathering contemporary artworks with innovative thinking around the globe.
The event, which is to last until October, features 30 art exhibitions across the city, offering the public an aesthetic experience at various levels through in-depth artistic dialogues with over 200 artists from more than 20 countries and regions.
Themed "The Statistics of Fortune," the event explores scientific research and religious activities that have been inseparable from each other since ancient times, with a view to inspiring people to examine and ponder on the relationship between science and religion from a new perspective.
The main exhibition of the Art Biennale features 118 pieces or sets of artworks by 42 famed artists from Asia, Europe and America, exploring the thoughts about science and religion from enchanting and intriguing perspectives.
In addition to traditional artistic creations such as painting, engraving, photography, mixed material and sculpture, the exhibition also brings more works in various means of innovative ideas and novel forms, such as installation, video and artificial intelligence (AI) art.
Qiu Zhijie, vice president of the Chinese Central Academy of Fine Arts, once again served as chief curator of this year's Art Biennale.
The event was organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region government in collaboration with the Macao government Tourism Office and several other institutions.
