DUBAI, 27th September, 2023 (WAM) -- The media can play a crucial role in fostering mutual understanding among distant cultures and cultivating unity on shared global issues, audiences heard at the 21st edition of the Arab Media Forum, which began on Tuesday.
In a session titled "Communication Lessons from the Sino-Arab Media Dialogue", Jia Peng, Director of CGTN China Media Group and CGTN Arabic, launched in 2009, was highly successful in covering China's news and presenting it to the Arab public.
He also highlighted the channel's role in explaining China's stance on current Arab news and bilateral relations.
"Media serves as a bridge to promote understanding, and the Arab people's acceptance of China is the result of this enhanced understanding," he remarked during the session moderated by Lubna Bouza, Editor-in-Chief - Business News at Sky News Arabia.
He emphasised how the channel has broadcast programmes that convey important messages, such as the significance of working together and building a shared future for humanity. The objective of the channel is to provide people in the Arab world who follow Chinese media with a comprehensive understanding of China's various activities, he noted.
"While we cover news on China, the Arab world and other countries, we also offer programmes that include dialogues and interviews to explain our positions and foster unity of opinions. Our goal is to facilitate a better understanding of the Arab world."
Peng emphasised the significance of Sino-Arab interactions, citing an instance where they organised the Chinese-Arab Media Forum with the participation of 100 guests from the Arab world. This forum served as a means to convey messages and strengthen ties with the Arab community.
During the session, he highlighted how China is keen to make meaningful contributions and collaborate in finding solutions to various global challenges. "As media professionals, we aim to gain a deeper understanding of the Arab public and establish stronger connections with them," he said.
In response to a question on how Chinese media perceive the Arab public, Peng said that while there may be geographical distance between China and the Arab world, there are numerous similarities in their way of life. "We both value the tradition of exchanging visits, and both China and the Arab world have ancient civilisations. Initiatives have been launched to explore the commonalities between our cultures and civilisations. Through mediums like movies, we aim to highlight these similarities in our histories and discuss the future."
