"Taking into account the processes taking place in the world, the SCO can be a stabilizing factor in ensuring the resolution of issues concerning energy resources, water, food and the economy," said Igor Shestakov a Kyrgyz political scientist.
BISHKEK, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) can be a stabilizing factor in resolving world conflicts, said Igor Shestakov, an expert from Kyrgyzstan.
In a recent interview with Xinhua, Shestakov, a Kyrgyz political scientist, said that today, the world is going through a difficult time, while the economic situation leaves much to be desired.
"Taking into account the processes taking place in the world, the SCO can be a stabilizing factor in ensuring the resolution of issues concerning energy resources, water, food and the economy," he said.
The 22nd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on Thursday.
The expert expected that China, an important SCO member, will pay more attention to Central Asia.
He said that China plays an important role in the economic cooperation of the SCO, especially within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, which is gaining support and participation from more and more countries.
"We will see the integration of SCO projects with those being implemented within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative," he said.
Speaking of security, Shestakov noted that terrorism and extremism are two enemies of the SCO. "Therefore, work in this direction will be more specific and improved."
When talking about bilateral relations, Shestakov noted that Kyrgyzstan-China ties have continued to move forward and have been upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era.
He said China is actively financing infrastructure and social projects in Kyrgyzstan. Thanks to China's help, Kyrgyzstan has completed the construction of a series of important livelihood projects, such as the Datka-Kemin power transmission project and the reconstruction of strategic highways, which has enabled the country to ensure energy independence and restore the roads of strategic importance.
Shestakov said that the Kyrgyz people will never forget the selfless assistance from China during the COVID-19 pandemic. And Kyrgyzstan-China cooperation attests to a genuine fraternal good-neighborly relationship, he said.
