Asia Album: People join cultural heritage festival in Singapore

SINGAPORE, May 26 (Xinhua) -- People joined in a cultural heritage festival in Singapore's Gardens by the Bay, getting close to traditional Peranakan costumes and food.

The Baba-Nyonya, or Peranakans, are descendants of Chinese immigrants who intermarried with local Malays, creating a distinct cultural identity. Male descendants are called "Baba," while female descendants are called "Nyonya".
